Algeria Upgrades 11 Administrative Districts to Full Provinces

Algiers, Algeria – The Algerian Council of Ministers has approved the elevation of eleven administrative districts to full provincial status. The decision was reached during a meeting held earlier today, Sunday, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The proposal to grant full provincial powers to these districts, located in the High Plateaus and Southern regions of Algeria, was a key item on the Council’s agenda. The districts slated for upgrade include Aflou, Barika, Ksar Chellala, Messaad, Ain Oussera, Boussada, El Abiodh Sidi Cheikh, El Kantara, Bir El Ater, Ksar El Boukhari, and El Aricha.

Following the Council’s approval, President Tebboune instructed relevant authorities to immediately initiate the necessary administrative procedures in coordination with both chambers of Parliament. This move signifies a commitment to regional development and administrative decentralization.

The upgrade is expected to bring increased investment and improved services to these regions. By granting these districts full provincial status, the government aims to empower local administrations and promote more effective governance. This decision reflects a broader strategy to foster economic growth and social development across Algeria.
