Severe Thunderstorms and Hail Hit Several Algerian Provinces

Algiers – Several provinces across Algeria are bracing for severe weather conditions as a new weather alert has been issued, forecasting heavy thunderstorms and hail. The affected regions are expected to experience significant rainfall starting today, Monday, and continuing through Tuesday.

The alert highlights that the provinces of Chlef, Sidi Bel Abbes, Mascara, Saida, Relizane, Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Medea, Bouira, Tizi Ouzou, northern Naama, northern El Bayadh, northern Djelfa, northern Laghouat, and M’Sila are particularly at risk. Rainfall amounts are expected to range between 20 and 40 millimeters throughout the day, lasting until 9:00 PM.

Furthermore, the western coastal strip, including the provinces of Tlemcen, Ain Temouchent, Oran, and Mostaganem, is also anticipating heavy thunderstorms with rainfall accumulations between 20 and 40 millimeters. These disturbances are predicted to begin at 12:00 PM and persist until 12:00 PM on Tuesday.

Central coastal provinces such as Ain Defla, Tipaza, Blida, Algiers, and Boumerdes are also under a special weather advisory. These areas are forecast to receive rainfall between 20 and 40 millimeters, commencing at 1:00 PM and continuing until 3:00 AM on Tuesday.

Authorities are urging citizens to exercise caution, especially near riverbeds and low-lying areas. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during peak periods of the storm and to adhere to safety guidelines issued by the Civil Protection services.
