Algeria Affirms: Foreign Policy Solely Guided by the Constitution

Algiers, November 18, 2025 – The Algerian government has reaffirmed that its foreign policy is exclusively derived from and dictated by the nation’s constitution, emphasizing national interest and the common good as its guiding principles.

According to a statement released earlier today, Algeria asserted its complete sovereignty over all decisions, clarifying that external influences hold no sway in shaping its international relations. The statement underscored that the nation has fully recovered its strength and resilience.

“The era of instability that plagued the nation during the 1990s is firmly in the past,” the statement declared, alluding to a period of significant challenges. It further emphasized that the Algerian constitution serves as the sole framework for defining and implementing the country’s foreign policy objectives.

The constitution, according to the statement, designates the President of the Republic as the primary architect of foreign policy, acting on behalf of the Algerian people. The diplomatic corps is responsible for the meticulous execution of this policy.

“No voice supersedes the constitution, and no source other than the constitution guides our foreign policy,” the statement firmly asserted.

The government expressed surprise at recent criticisms leveled against Algerian diplomacy, particularly concerning its stance on the latest United Nations Security Council resolution regarding the Palestinian issue and the humanitarian and security situation in Gaza. The statement dismissed these criticisms as lacking objectivity and demonstrating a fundamental misunderstanding of diplomatic processes.

Furthermore, the statement suggested that such criticisms reveal ulterior motives and a willingness to exploit Algeria’s foreign policy for narrow political gains, disregarding the national interest. It reiterated Algeria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their just cause, emphasizing that this commitment remains a cornerstone of its foreign policy.

The government concluded by condemning any attempts to manipulate the country’s foreign policy for political maneuvering, stressing that Algeria remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the principles enshrined in its constitution and prioritizing the national interest above all else.
