Algeria Launches First National Digital University Library

Algiers, October 20, 2025 – The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has officially launched the nation’s first digital university library, according to a statement released by the ministry. The library is managed by the Office of University Publications (OPU).

The digital repository boasts an impressive collection of over 110,000 electronic documents. This comprehensive database includes books published by the OPU, doctoral dissertations in collaboration with the National Center for Scientific and Technical Information and Documentation (CERIST), and publications from the Supreme Council of the Arabic Language.

Furthermore, the digital library incorporates materials from the National Center for Studies and Research on the National Movement and the November 1, 1954 Revolution, alongside an extensive database of patents.

Access to this wealth of knowledge is facilitated through a nominal annual subscription fee of 300 Algerian Dinars, granting students unrestricted access to all available electronic documents. Individual e-book downloads will also be available for purchase in Algerian Dinars.

Starting in November, the library will expand its reach globally, offering the option to purchase e-books online in US dollars.

This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Higher Education’s strategic efforts to enhance digital transformation, develop the university education system, and establish a comprehensive digital environment. The goal is to provide students, researchers, and professors with seamless access to knowledge and academic resources, fostering a more dynamic and accessible learning experience.
