Algeria Leads Arab World in ARScif Ranking for 2025

Algiers, October 21, 2025 – For the fifth consecutive year, Algeria has secured the top position in the Arab world in the Arab Citation Index (ARScif) for Arab scientific journals, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The Ministry highlighted that 426 Algerian scientific journals met the ARScif impact factor criteria, out of a total of 1272 Arab scientific journals. This assessment was based on the examination of data from over 5000 Arab scientific or research journal titles across various disciplines, published by more than 1500 universities and scientific research institutions in the Arab world.

Algeria also ranked first among Arab nations in terms of the number of authors whose scientific output was cited, with a total of 26,834 authors. This represents an increase of approximately 5,400 authors compared to last year’s report. This reflects a growing impact of Algerian research on the regional scientific landscape.

Furthermore, Algerian journals achieved top rankings among the best 10 journals in the fields of arts and humanities, social sciences, law, Islamic studies, and political science.

In other areas, Algerian authors were among the top 10 most influential Arab authors in the fields of economics, finance, business administration (out of over 27,400 authors cited), and media and communication (out of over 5,500 authors cited), the same source added.

Regarding the ranking of Algerian universities among Arab universities in terms of research impact, the University of Ouargla achieved fourth place in the Arab world for the number of citations received by articles published in its journals. It also ranked eighth in the Arab world for the number of citations received by its affiliated authors. The University of Biskra secured tenth place in the Arab world for the number of citations received by its affiliated authors.

The ARScif impact factor is overseen by a supervisory and coordination council comprising representatives from various Arab and international entities. Scientific journals seeking to achieve success in the impact factor must meet 32 criteria aligned with international standards.
