Algerian Army Thwarts Terror, Drug Trafficking in Week-Long Push

The Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) has released details of a successful week of operations, spanning November 12th to 18th, 2025, demonstrating its commitment to national security. The operations focused on counter-terrorism, combating organized crime, and preventing illegal immigration, highlighting the army’s readiness to protect Algeria’s borders.

Counter-Terrorism Efforts

In a significant development, the ANP received the surrender of the terrorist, Tibari Hafidh, known as ‘Kassaoui,’ to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Sixth Military Region. The surrendered terrorist was in possession of a Kalashnikov submachine gun, ammunition, and other equipment. Additionally, eight individuals providing support to terrorist groups were apprehended in separate operations across the country.

Combating Organized Crime and Drug Trafficking

As part of the ongoing fight against drug networks, joint detachments of the ANP, in coordination with various security agencies, arrested 27 drug traffickers. They also thwarted attempts to smuggle 145 kg of treated cannabis across the western borders, in addition to seizing 1.4 kg of cocaine and nearly one million psychotropic tablets (967,504 tablets).

In the southern regions, the army continues to clamp down on illegal gold mining activities. 186 individuals were arrested in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Illizi, and Djanet. Authorities also confiscated 27 vehicles, 296 generators, 164 jackhammers, mining equipment, and quantities of raw gold mixture. Furthermore, 27,440 liters of fuel and 10 tons of food intended for smuggling were seized. 14 other individuals were apprehended while in possession of weapons, including an FMPK machine gun, 3 Kalashnikovs, and 6 hunting rifles.

Illegal Immigration Attempts Foilied

The Coast Guard successfully thwarted several illegal immigration attempts and rescued 152 individuals aboard makeshift boats. Across various regions of the country, 491 illegal immigrants of various nationalities were arrested.

This operational report underscores the ANP’s continued commitment to executing its field operations with strength and effectiveness, aiming to bolster security and stability, and protect the nation’s borders from diverse threats. The army remains vigilant in its mission to safeguard Algeria.
