Achraf Hakimi Crowned African Player of the Year 2025

Algiers, Algeria – In a glittering ceremony, Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi has been awarded the prestigious African Player of the Year award for 2025. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) bestows this honor annually to recognize the continent’s most outstanding football talent.

This marks the first time Hakimi has received the coveted title. CAF President Patrice Motsepe and FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented the award to the Moroccan international at the annual CAF Awards gala. Hakimi emerged victorious over formidable contenders, including Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah of Egypt and Galatasaray’s Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. His exceptional performances throughout the year with both club and country secured him the top spot.

Despite recently suffering a significant ankle injury during Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, Hakimi attended the ceremony, accepting the award while using a crutch, to a standing ovation from the audience.

Hakimi played a pivotal role in Paris Saint-Germain’s impressive run of success, contributing significantly to their triumphs in Ligue 1, the Champions League, the European Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. His stellar performances have solidified his reputation as one of the world’s leading defenders in 2025.

DZWatch will continue to provide updates on Hakimi’s recovery and his future performances.
