Oran Set to Host 2028 African University Games

Algeria has officially announced its designation as the host nation for the 13th African University Games in 2028, with the city of Oran selected to stage the continental event. This decision was formalized at the conclusion of the 12th edition of the games, which took place in Cairo, Egypt. During the closing ceremonies of the current games, the flag for the upcoming edition was formally handed over, signifying the transfer of organizing responsibilities to Algeria.

In response to this significant development, both the Algerian Minister of Sports and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research expressed their profound pride in this achievement. They highlighted that hosting the games is a clear reflection of the international community's confidence in Algeria's capabilities to successfully organize major university sporting events.

The ministers also extended their appreciation to the university students, athletes, and the various technical and administrative teams for their commendable performance during the Cairo games, where Algeria achieved a notable second-place finish in the overall standings. Looking ahead, both officials reiterated their commitment to ongoing coordination and collaborative efforts to ensure the successful execution of the Oran 2028 event, further strengthening the position of Algerian university sports on the continental stage.
