Washington D.C. – Controversially, President Donald Trump has initiated the demolition of a portion of the White House to construct a new ballroom and events space. The project, which began Monday, has sparked widespread debate across the nation.
President Trump announced the commencement of the project on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating, “I am thrilled to announce that work has begun on the White House to build a new, large, and magnificent ballroom!”
Images circulating online show heavy machinery demolishing sections of the East Wing of the presidential residence. The planned ballroom is reportedly slated to cover over 8,000 square meters, with a capacity to accommodate up to 1,000 people. The estimated cost of the project is $250 million.
According to President Trump, the new ballroom will serve as a venue for state dinners honoring foreign heads of state, as well as other large-scale events. Mock-ups of the project reveal a vast, windowed structure that will occupy the current location of the East Wing, traditionally housing the First Lady’s offices.
The President has emphasized that the construction of the ballroom will be entirely funded through donations from what he described as “generous patriotic Americans and wonderful companies.”
The White House has served as the official residence and workplace of U.S. Presidents since 1800, with John Adams being the first president to reside there.
This development has raised questions regarding the preservation of historical landmarks and the allocation of resources during President Trump’s current term.
