International Forum Highlights Solidarity with Western Sahara

Smara Refugee Camps, Algeria – The International Solidarity Forum for Cultural Exchange and Peace in Western Sahara concluded today in Smara, reaffirming strong support for the Sahrawi cause and the right to self-determination.

Participants at the third annual event, held in the Sahrawi refugee camps, emphasized the justice of the Sahrawi people’s struggle and pledged continued solidarity in their pursuit of a lasting and peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The forum served as a platform for cultural exchange and dialogue, bringing together activists, academics, and artists from around the world to discuss the challenges facing the Sahrawi people and explore avenues for promoting peace and justice in the region. Discussions centered on the ongoing occupation of Western Sahara, the human rights situation, and the need for a fair and transparent referendum on self-determination.

Speakers highlighted the importance of international pressure on Morocco to abide by international law and allow the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to choose their own future. They also underscored the critical role of humanitarian aid in supporting the Sahrawi refugees, who have been living in camps for decades.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment to raising awareness about the Western Sahara issue and advocating for a just and peaceful solution that respects the rights and aspirations of the Sahrawi people. Organizers expressed hope that the forum would contribute to building a stronger international movement in support of the Sahrawi cause.

The Western Sahara remains a contested territory, with Morocco claiming sovereignty and the Polisario Front, representing the Sahrawi people, seeking independence.
