Annaba, Algeria – Customs officials in Annaba have intercepted a significant quantity of controlled substances at the Ouled Moumen border crossing, thwarting an attempt to smuggle thousands of tablets into the country.
According to a statement released by the General Directorate of Customs, inspectors from the passenger inspection division at the Souk Ahras customs department seized approximately 8,000 tablets, primarily consisting of pregabalin. The haul included 5,001 pregabalin tablets (150mg) and 2,885 Lexomil tablets (6mg), along with 130 grams of Lexomil powder.
The illicit substances were discovered meticulously concealed within the structural cavities of a Renault Clio Classic passenger vehicle. The initial cache was found hidden beneath the engine cover, while a subsequent search revealed another concealed compartment under the air conditioning unit.
Authorities have filed a seizure report, and the suspect, along with other individuals allegedly involved, have been presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Souk Ahras Court to face legal proceedings. This operation underscores the ongoing efforts of Algerian customs to combat the trafficking of illegal substances and safeguard national security.
