WhatsApp Tests Multi-Account Feature on iPhones

WhatsApp is currently testing a highly anticipated feature for iPhone users: multi-account support. This update allows users to manage and utilize multiple WhatsApp accounts on a single device, streamlining communication and improving user experience.

The feature is initially available to a limited number of beta testers, with plans for a phased rollout to a broader audience in the coming weeks. Select users may even receive the feature through previous updates as the development team continues rigorous testing and refinement.

Previous beta versions, particularly version 25.19.10.74 on iOS, signaled WhatsApp’s commitment to developing a seamless account-switching experience. Users will be able to switch between accounts directly from the settings page without needing to log out or restart the application. The primary goal is to enable easy management of multiple accounts while preserving chat history and settings for each individual account.

The current testing phase reveals that some testers have noticed the option to add a new account and switch between accounts within the application’s settings menu. This new feature provides multiple options for adding accounts. Users can add a brand new account using a phone number not previously registered with WhatsApp. They can also add an account that was previously used, whether on standard WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, or another device.

Furthermore, users can link a companion account from another device by scanning a QR code, automatically transferring messages and settings to the current device. In this initial trial phase, the update allows for the addition of only two accounts within the application itself.

The multi-account feature appears within a new section in the settings, labeled ‘Account List’ or via a new button next to the QR code icon. This central hub simplifies account management without requiring an additional device or separate application. Each account maintains its own independent settings. Chat history, backups, notification tones, and automatic media download settings remain separate between accounts. Each account also retains its own privacy settings, including last seen status, profile picture, read receipts, muted chats, and interactions. This ensures a personalized and secure experience for each WhatsApp account on a single device.
