Weather Alert: Snow and Heavy Rain Forecast for Northern Algeria

Algiers, Algeria – The National Meteorological Office has issued an orange alert, the second highest level, warning of severe weather conditions expected to impact several eastern and central provinces. Significant snowfall and heavy thunderstorms are anticipated in the coming hours.

Snowfall accumulations are predicted to range between 10 and 20 centimeters across the provinces of Bouira, Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Jijel, Setif, and Bordj Bou Arreridj. Authorities caution that these conditions may lead to traffic disruptions and closures, particularly on mountainous roads.

In addition to the snow, the meteorological office forecasts substantial rainfall, with accumulations ranging from 40 to 50 millimeters and potentially reaching 70 millimeters in localized coastal and eastern areas. The affected provinces include Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Setif, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, and El Tarf.

Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution due to the risk of flash flooding and rising water levels in certain neighborhoods and slopes.

The meteorological services are advising citizens and drivers to be particularly vigilant when traveling, especially in mountainous and coastal regions. It is strongly recommended to avoid approaching riverbeds during the period of severe weather.
