Algiers, November 21, 2025 – Authorities have successfully thwarted an illegal emigration attempt and apprehended eleven individuals, including three wanted on drug-related charges. The operation, a coordinated effort between the Algiers police force and the Sidi Fredj Coast Guard, took place late last week.
According to a statement released by security services, the collaborative operation dismantled a criminal network specializing in organizing clandestine sea crossings. The eleven individuals detained were reportedly preparing to embark on an illegal journey. Among those arrested were the organizers of the operation, as well as three individuals sought in connection with narcotics offenses.
The joint operation, executed by the Zéralda Judicial Police Brigade and the Sidi Fredj Coast Guard Maritime Unit, followed the movements of the suspects and monitored their route. The suspects were apprehended at sea, off the coast of Djamila Port in Ain Benian.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of a substantial sum of foreign currency, amounting to 4,110 euros, and a strobe light. The arrested individuals were presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Cheraga Court on November 19, 2025. Authorities are continuing their investigations to uncover any further accomplices and dismantle the network completely.
This successful intervention underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat illegal emigration and maintain maritime security. DZWatch will continue to provide updates as this story develops.
