Sidi Bel Abbes – Djillali Liabes University of Sidi Bel Abbes celebrated its achievement as the top-ranked university in Africa and the Maghreb region according to the latest Shanghai Ranking for 2025.
The prestigious ranking was commemorated during an official ceremony held Thursday evening at the Kaafor Youssef Lecture Hall on the university campus. The event saw significant participation from key stakeholders in the education sector.
University officials expressed immense pride in this accomplishment, highlighting the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and research innovation. “This ranking reflects the dedication of our faculty, the hard work of our students, and the continuous support of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research,” stated the University Rector during the ceremony.
The Shanghai Ranking, officially known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), is widely recognized as one of the most influential and objective global university rankings. It assesses universities based on several indicators, including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of highly cited researchers, and the number of articles published in Nature and Science journals.
The achievement is expected to further enhance the university’s reputation and attract more international students and researchers. It also serves as a motivating factor for other Algerian universities to strive for higher standards and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and innovation in the region.
The university administration has pledged to continue investing in research infrastructure, faculty development, and international collaborations to maintain its leading position and further improve its global ranking in the years to come.
