Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his commitment to fostering peaceful relations with Saudi Arabia, regardless of Iran’s stance, in response to a statement from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Netanyahu emphasized that Iran would not hinder Israel’s efforts to broaden the circle of peace for the benefit of its citizens, the region’s people, and humanity as a whole, as stated in a release from his office.

Netanyahu also pointed out that Iran’s previous attempts to obstruct Israel’s diplomatic progress, such as the Abraham Accords signed with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco in 2020, were unsuccessful.

These comments come after Khamenei cautioned earlier in the day that nations seeking to normalize relations with Israel might be making an unwise choice, according to Iranian state media reports.

Facilitated by the United States, Israel has been engaged in discussions with Saudi Arabia regarding a potential peace agreement between the two nations. Following a meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden on September 20 in New York, Netanyahu expressed optimism that the normalization of ties between Israel and Saudi Arabia could be on the horizon.
