Snowfall Disrupts Travel: Roads Closed Across Several Regions

November 22, 2025 – Significant snowfall has led to the closure of several key roadways across the country, according to the National Gendarmerie. Travel is being heavily impacted in mountainous regions, particularly in the Bouira and Tizi Ouzou provinces.

The National Gendarmerie’s ‘My Road’ information service reports that National Route 15, connecting Bouira and Tizi Ouzou, is impassable at Fdjj Tirourda in the municipality of Iferhounene. Heavy snow accumulation is the primary cause of the closure.

Similar conditions have forced the closure of National Route 33 in Tizi Ouzou province, specifically at Assoul in the Ait Boumahdi municipality. Authorities are advising motorists to avoid the area until further notice.

In Bouira province, National Route 15, again connecting to Tizi Ouzou, is closed at Col Tirourda in the Aghbalou municipality due to snow accumulation. Likewise, National Route 33, linking Bouira and Tizi Ouzou, is blocked at Tikjda in the municipality of El Esnam for the same reason.

Furthermore, National Route 30, which also connects Bouira and Tizi Ouzou, is closed at Tizi N’Koullal in the Saharidj municipality due to heavy snowfall.

Authorities are urging drivers to exercise extreme caution and to check road conditions before embarking on journeys in affected areas. Alternative routes should be considered where possible. DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
