Algiers, Algeria – Heavy snowfall across several central Algerian provinces has brought traffic to a standstill and forced the closure of key national roads. The recent weather disturbances, impacting higher altitude regions, have led to significant accumulations of snow, particularly in the provinces of Tizi Ouzou and Bouira.
The National Gendarmerie’s Traffic Information and Coordination Center (Tariki) reported this morning that multiple road axes have been completely blocked due to the snow. Specific areas affected include:
Tizi Ouzou Province:
- National Road 15, connecting Bouira and Tizi Ouzou, is closed at the Tirourda Pass in the municipality of Iferhounène due to snow accumulation.
- National Road 33 is blocked at the Assoul area in the municipality of Aït Boumahdi for the same reason.
Bouira Province:
- National Road 15 is closed at the Col Tirourda in the municipality of Aghbalou due to heavy snowfall.
- National Road 33 is also blocked at the Tikjda area in the municipality of El Asnam due to significant snow accumulation.
Competent authorities have confirmed that all other roads remain open to traffic. However, drivers are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution, especially when traveling through mountainous areas where weather conditions remain unstable. Motorists should be prepared for potential delays and changing road conditions.
