Tindouf, Algeria – Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djelloul, affirmed on Saturday the readiness of the Western Mining Railway project, linking Gara Djebilet (Tindouf) to Beni Abbes and Bechar, before the end of 2025.
During a visit to the Tindouf province, Minister Djelloul emphasized the strategic importance of the railway line for the development of the region and the country’s mining sector. This project is poised to significantly boost the transportation of iron ore from the Gara Djebilet mines, unlocking substantial economic opportunities.
The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the project, highlighting the collaborative efforts between the National Rail Transport Company (SNTF) and the National Agency for Studies and Monitoring of Railway Investments (ANESRIF), under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure.
“We are confident that this crucial infrastructure project will be operational before the end of 2025,” stated Minister Djelloul. “It represents a significant step forward in our efforts to enhance the country’s transportation network and promote economic diversification.”
The Western Mining Railway is expected to dramatically reduce transportation costs and improve the efficiency of iron ore extraction and distribution, making Algerian iron ore more competitive in the global market. The project is also expected to create numerous jobs in the region, contributing to its overall development.
The development of the Gara Djebilet iron ore deposit and the associated railway infrastructure represents a major strategic priority for the Algerian government, aimed at bolstering the national economy and reducing reliance on hydrocarbon exports.
