Algiers – In a significant move to bolster social protection, the Algerian Ministry of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Issues has announced a new initiative providing free medication to impoverished citizens lacking social security coverage.
The ministerial decree, published in Official Gazette No. 75 dated July 13, 2025, outlines a comprehensive list of medications that will be made available to eligible individuals at no cost. This decision reflects the government’s commitment to supporting the most vulnerable members of society and expanding access to essential social services, particularly in the realm of healthcare.
The implementation of this medication assistance program marks the culmination of efforts to streamline access and provide tangible support to those in need. The Ministry is urging eligible citizens to submit their applications through the Directorate of Social Activity and Solidarity offices located in municipalities across the country.
Applicants must provide the following documentation: a signed request form, a birth certificate, a family status certificate (for married individuals), a current proof of residence, a photograph, a certificate of no income from relevant authorities, proof of non-affiliation with any social security organization, and a medical report from a specialist in a public health institution confirming a chronic illness.
A complete list of approved medications is available in the official decree.
This initiative is expected to alleviate the financial and health burdens faced by impoverished families and reinforce the principle of national solidarity by ensuring equitable access to medical treatment.
