Algiers – Experts and researchers participating in an international conference on climate-resilient transport infrastructure emphasized the critical importance of enhanced data collection and the adoption of precise digital mapping. The conference, held in Algiers this Saturday, focused on developing infrastructure capable of withstanding increasingly severe weather phenomena.
Participants asserted that comprehensive data and accurate digital maps are not merely helpful, but essential tools for planning, designing, and building transport systems that can endure the impacts of climate change. They argued that a deeper understanding of local climate patterns, potential vulnerabilities, and evolving risks is paramount to creating robust and sustainable infrastructure.
“Investing in robust data infrastructure is an investment in the future of our transport networks,” stated one expert. “Without precise data and detailed digital representations of our environment, we are essentially building blindfolded. We need to know where the risks are, how they are changing, and how to best mitigate them.”
