Blida, Algeria – A major drug trafficking network has been dismantled in Blida by the Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI) of the Wilaya Judicial Police. The operation, which took place this week, resulted in the arrest of six individuals allegedly involved in the sale of a large quantity of psychotropic substances in the city center.
The operation was initiated following intelligence reports regarding suspicious activity related to drug dealing in a Blida neighborhood. An undercover operation led to the apprehension of a suspect in his twenties, caught in flagrante delicto while riding a motorcycle. Authorities discovered a bag containing 3,000 psychotropic capsules, along with an additional 4,040 capsules concealed in the motorcycle’s rear compartment.
Under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office, search warrants were issued to expand the scope of the investigation. This led to the arrest of the remaining five members of the network. In total, law enforcement seized 7,230 psychotropic capsules and a substantial sum of money amounting to 530 million centimes. A money counting machine, a packaging press, and three prohibited edged weapons were also confiscated.
The suspects have been referred to the Blida Court Prosecutor’s Office on charges including possession, transportation, sale, and storage of psychotropic substances within an organized criminal group, money laundering within an organized criminal group, and smuggling that poses a serious threat to public health and the national economy. The investigation is ongoing.
