Naama, Algeria – A significant drug bust in Naama has resulted in the arrest of nine individuals and the seizure of a large quantity of processed cannabis and cocaine, according to local authorities.
The operation, conducted by the National Gendarmerie’s territorial brigade in El-Kassdir, successfully apprehended suspects ranging in age from 24 to 60. Among those arrested was an individual wanted internationally and another who was actively evading law enforcement.
The authorities’ statement detailed the seizure of 555 kilograms of processed cannabis. In addition, 1.117 kilograms of a white powder, later identified as cocaine and weighing approximately 532.5 grams, was confiscated.
The operation also yielded a substantial amount of cash. Authorities seized 259 million Algerian dinars, along with 50 euros in foreign currency. Furthermore, three money counting machines and three small electronic scales, commonly used for weighing drugs, were recovered. The authorities also confiscated 20 smartphones, four utility vehicles, and a truck with a trailer.
Following standard legal procedures, the arrested individuals will be presented before the judicial authorities to face charges. This successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
