Perez Slams La Liga Boss Tebas, Criticizes Barcelona’s Actions

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez launched a scathing attack on Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, and also directed criticism towards FC Barcelona during the club’s Ordinary General Assembly on Sunday. Perez, 78, vehemently criticized La Liga’s agreement with the CVC investment fund, asserting that Tebas is acting in an “unnatural” manner and is solely focused on protecting his own interests.

“It’s not normal for football to be governed by someone who only aims to preserve their privileges,” Perez stated. “Nor is it normal for the league president to promote playing a match outside of Spain. Even Barcelona captain Frenkie de Jong sees this as illogical.” He further added, “It’s also unacceptable that clubs like Barcelona and Villarreal receive additional financial support in exchange for playing in Miami.”

Perez continued his critique of Tebas’s behavior, labeling it as autocratic. He also condemned the comparison Tebas drew between hosting an NFL game at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium and attempting to hold a La Liga match in Miami. “The NFL event was a legitimate project approved by all the league’s clubs. The comparison is absurd because the Miami match doesn’t even have UEFA’s approval. It’s just another attempt by the league president to impose his will.”

Perez also addressed the controversial “Negreira case,” sharply criticizing Barcelona. “It’s not normal for Barcelona to pay the vice president of the referees committee 8 million euros over 17 years, regardless of the justifications. It’s strange that this coincided with the best sporting period in the club’s history,” he stated. “Barcelona was also against the investment fund agreement, but suddenly reversed their position to be allowed to register their players.”
