Severe Weather Alert Issued for Northern Algeria Starting Tuesday

Algiers – Several northern Algerian provinces are bracing for a significant weather disturbance set to begin on Tuesday, according to meteorological forecasts. The impending system is expected to bring heavy thunderstorms and snowfall to higher elevations, exacerbating the already frigid temperatures experienced in recent days.

Digital weather models indicate that a wave of active disturbances will impact the eastern, central, and western regions alike. This system is predicted to deliver substantial rainfall and snowfall across the High Plateaus and the Aurès Mountains, with the potential for ice formation during the early morning hours.

The intensity of this weather event is attributed to a very cold air mass originating from Europe, which is pushing southward towards North Africa. This influx of cold air will cause a sharp drop in temperatures coinciding with the passage of the low-pressure system on Tuesday.

Coastal and northern cities are expected to experience considerable thunderstorm activity, with rainfall totals potentially ranging between 40 and 50 millimeters in certain areas. Specific provinces anticipated to be heavily affected include: Oran, Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, Mecheria, Naama, El Bayadh, Relizane, Chlef, Ain Temouchent, Mostaganem, Algiers, Blida, Boumerdes, Tipaza, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, El Tarf, Souk Ahras, and Constantine. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay informed about the evolving weather conditions.

DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
