US & Ukraine Revise Peace Plan Amid European Pressure

Washington and Kyiv have announced the development of a revised peace framework following intensive discussions in Geneva. The announcement, made in a joint statement earlier today, comes after meetings involving American, Ukrainian, and European officials.

While details of the revised plan remain undisclosed, it has been met with cautious reactions in European capitals, where leaders are closely monitoring any agreement that could shape the future of European security. The initial American proposal, which sparked criticism last week, reportedly included conditions deemed unacceptable by Kyiv. These conditions included territorial concessions, limitations on the Ukrainian military, and the exclusion of Ukraine from joining NATO.

Kyiv described these terms as “akin to surrender”, prompting Washington to reconsider its approach following joint objections from both Ukraine and European nations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that his delegation would return to Kyiv to present the results of the Geneva meetings, emphasizing the ongoing search for “compromises that do not weaken Ukraine’s position.”

US President Donald Trump suggested the possibility of genuine progress in the peace process, but cautioned against excessive optimism “before seeing the results.” Last week, Washington presented Ukraine and European countries with a 28-point peace plan, giving Kyiv until Thursday to agree to a framework for ending what is described as the most violent conflict in Europe since World War II. The plan reportedly demanded territorial concessions, military limitations, and a ban on future NATO membership, conditions Kyiv has long considered to be tantamount to surrender.

European allies of Ukraine are said to have prepared a counter-proposal. According to reports, this proposal calls for a cessation of hostilities along current front lines, with discussions on territorial issues to be held at a later date. It also includes American security guarantees for Ukraine, similar to NATO’s security commitments.
