Algeria and Egypt Deepen Security Cooperation

Algiers, November 25, 2025 – Algeria and Egypt have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening security cooperation, particularly in combating transnational crime. The announcement follows a high-level meeting in Cairo between Algerian Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Saiud, and his Egyptian counterpart, Mahmoud Tawfik.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 9th session of the Algerian-Egyptian Joint Higher Committee, held in Cairo from November 23rd to 26th. The committee was co-chaired by Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Gharib and Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

During their discussions, both ministers emphasized the strong and historically deep-rooted relations between Algeria and Egypt. They exchanged views on various issues of mutual concern, with a particular focus on regional and international security developments and the common challenges facing both nations.

A key focus of the meeting was the need to enhance bilateral cooperation in combating cross-border crime in all its forms. This includes addressing the trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances, irregular migration, and human trafficking. The ministers also discussed strengthening coordination and joint efforts in the fight against cybercrime, emphasizing the importance of increased exchange of experiences and expertise between the security agencies and training institutions of both countries.

As part of their efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation, the ministers agreed to schedule a subsequent meeting of experts from both ministries. This meeting will focus on developing a roadmap to further enhance cooperation activities between Algeria and Egypt in the security domain.
