Africa Must Unite to Become Global Pharma Hub

Algiers, November 27, 2025 – Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Ait Messoudene, emphasized the critical need for enhanced coordination among African nations to transform the continent into a global pharmaceutical powerhouse. Speaking at the African Ministerial Conference on Local Pharmaceutical Production and Health Technologies in Algiers, the Minister asserted that Africa possesses the inherent capabilities to realize this ambitious objective.

Minister Ait Messoudene reiterated Algeria’s unwavering commitment to actively contribute to the African momentum in advancing the pharmaceutical industry. He highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the continent’s healthcare needs and reducing reliance on external sources for essential medicines.

“Africa has the potential to become a significant player in the global pharmaceutical market,” stated Minister Ait Messoudene. “By pooling our resources, sharing expertise, and fostering innovation, we can build a robust and sustainable pharmaceutical sector that benefits all Africans.”

The Minister further emphasized the need for harmonized regulatory frameworks, streamlined approval processes, and increased investment in research and development to attract pharmaceutical companies and promote local manufacturing. He also called for greater collaboration between governments, academia, and the private sector to drive innovation and ensure the availability of affordable and quality medicines.

The African Ministerial Conference on Local Pharmaceutical Production and Health Technologies serves as a platform for African leaders to discuss strategies and initiatives aimed at strengthening the continent’s pharmaceutical industry and improving access to healthcare for its citizens.
