Minister Lauds Emir Abdelkader’s Legacy on 193rd Anniversary

The Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, Abdelmalek Tacharift, delivered a speech today in Mascara, commemorating the 193rd anniversary of the allegiance to Emir Abdelkader al-Jazairi. The Minister emphasized the historical significance and national symbolism of this occasion, noting that the pledge of allegiance to Emir Abdelkader was a foundational moment that gave the national resistance its spirit and laid the groundwork for the modern Algerian state. He added that it presented humanity with a timeless model of wise leadership, enlightened thought, and chivalry that transcends time and place.

He also expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for his high patronage of this event, affirming that this reflects the state’s keenness to preserve the national memory and cherish the historical figures who made the nation’s glory. The Minister pointed out that talking about Emir Abdelkader is not limited to recalling his person, but extends to evoking his values, approach, and life message, which combined deep faith, high intellect, keen politics, and field courage.

Tacharift explained that Emir Abdelkader rose at a young age to bear the concerns of a wounded nation and people under the yoke of occupation, transforming a difficult moment into a state project and laying the foundations for a cohesive political, administrative, and military system ahead of its time. He stated that Emir Abdelkader did not believe that the nation is built by the sword alone, but by education, organization, and ethical values, establishing the rules of justice and respect for rights, regulating relations between authorities, and seeking to develop agriculture and establish factories. He also forged solid diplomatic relations with major nations.

The Minister further highlighted Emir Abdelkader’s global humanitarian role, when he protected thousands of Christians in Damascus in 1860, which made the world raise flags of appreciation and respect for him. He affirmed that Emir Abdelkader’s fragrant biography represents sustenance for generations and a beacon that illuminates the nation’s path towards building a strong present, a just state, and a cohesive society, stressing the need to continue to care for the memory of Emir Abdelkader, preserve his heritage, deepen his presence in the consciousness of generations, and consolidate his values that are still capable of inspiring the world.

He added that loyalty to Algeria’s history, glory, and the sacrifices of its people requires standing firmly to complete the development paths and enhance achievements and gains, emphasizing that this goal links the ancient past with the ambitious present and the promising future of Algeria. The Minister concluded his speech by praying for the soul of Emir Abdelkader, the just leader and Sufi philosopher, expressing his thanks to the Minister of Culture and Arts.
