Algiers – National Gendarmerie units in the capital have dismantled a criminal network involved in drug trafficking and the distribution of psychotropic substances. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to bolster security, combat crime in all its forms, and maintain public order.
The operation, supervised by the Regional Gendarmerie Battalion of Bir Touta, with support from the Special Intervention Detachment, was launched following credible information received by the Regional Gendarmerie Brigade of Chaibia regarding a criminal network posing a threat to public safety. The network was reportedly involved in the trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic drugs in the Chaibia neighborhood of Ouled Chbel municipality.
Based on this intelligence, Gendarmerie officers intensified their investigations, utilizing specialized intelligence gathering methods. This allowed them to identify the members of the network and their location. Following the development of a comprehensive security plan, a successful raid was executed, resulting in the arrest of 13 individuals, most of whom have prior criminal records.
During the operation, authorities seized 451 psychotropic tablets of the Pregabalin 300mg type. Additionally, a sum of 70,000 Algerian Dinars, believed to be proceeds from drug sales, was confiscated, along with various types and sizes of bladed weapons.
DZWatch understands that after the completion of all legal procedures, the detainees will be presented before the competent judicial authorities to face appropriate legal action.
The National Gendarmerie continues its commitment to fighting drug-related crime and ensuring the safety and security of Algerian citizens.
