New York, NY – The Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations has lauded Algeria’s contributions and active role within the UN Security Council. Speaking to reporters at the UN headquarters, the envoy highlighted Algeria’s commitment to fostering peace and security in the Middle East and its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.
The envoy emphasized Algeria’s consistent advocacy for a two-state solution, based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine. He noted that Algeria’s diplomatic efforts within the Security Council have been instrumental in keeping the Palestinian issue at the forefront of international discussions.
“Algeria has consistently demonstrated its dedication to upholding international law and the principles of justice,” the envoy stated. “Their voice within the Security Council is a powerful one, and they use it effectively to advocate for the rights of the Palestinian people.”
The remarks come at a time of heightened tensions in the region, with ongoing concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the stalled peace process. Algeria has been a vocal critic of the Israeli occupation and has called for an end to the violence.
Beyond the Palestinian issue, Algeria has also played a significant role in addressing other global security challenges, including conflicts in Africa and the fight against terrorism. Its commitment to multilateralism and its active engagement in international diplomacy have earned it respect from nations around the world.
The Palestinian envoy’s praise underscores the strong relationship between Palestine and Algeria, which has historically been a staunch supporter of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. This recognition further solidifies Algeria’s position as a key player in regional and international affairs.
Algeria currently holds a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council, providing it with a platform to further advance its foreign policy objectives and contribute to global peace and security.
