Algiers, Algeria – Algeria hosted the 13th session of the Council of Defense Ministers and the 14th meeting of the Chiefs of Staff Committee of the member states of the North African Regional Capability (NARC) today. The meetings took place at the National Army Club in Beni Messous.
NARC comprises Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic. Major General Mohamed Salah Benbicha, Secretary-General of the Ministry of National Defense, represented the Minister of National Defense. Major General, Head of the Department of Employment and Preparation of the People’s National Army Chief of Staff, represented the Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army. A representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad and African Affairs also participated.
Representatives from the defense ministries and chiefs of staff of the member states were present, along with Ahmed Ahmida Tajouri, the Executive Secretary of the North African Regional Capability, and Brigadier General Mohamed Gouma Al-Shaibani, Head of the Mechanism’s Planning Element.
The agenda included an assessment of the capability’s activities during 2025 and a review of ways to develop its working mechanisms and components. The aim is to enhance coordination among member states in addressing threats to the region’s security and stability. Discussions focused on strengthening regional cooperation in the face of evolving security challenges.
The meetings concluded with the signing of the final report of the 13th session of the Council of Defense Ministers and the 14th session of the Chiefs of Staff Committee of the member states of the North African Regional Capability.
This initiative underscores Algeria’s commitment to fostering regional security and stability through collaborative efforts. The North African Regional Capability serves as a vital platform for addressing shared challenges and promoting peace within the region.
