A Palestinian man has been killed by Israeli fire in the eastern Khan Younis area, according to medical sources at Nasser Medical Complex. The incident occurred near Bani Suheila, just inside the demarcation line.
Reports indicate that Israeli artillery shelled areas east of Khan Younis, while helicopters launched heavy fire on the same vicinity. Palestinian sources also reported naval fire from Israeli gunboats targeting the coast off Khan Younis. These incidents coincide with reported airstrikes by the Israeli military on the northeastern regions of Rafah.
Gaza Rights Group Alleges Widespread Violations
The Gaza Centre for Human Rights has documented 535 alleged violations by Israeli forces since the ceasefire agreement came into effect on October 10th. These violations, they claim, have resulted in the deaths of 350 Palestinians.
Civilian Casualties and Humanitarian Concerns
In a statement released today, the Centre detailed that the violations included aerial and artillery bombardment, ground incursions, and the targeting of civilians. They also highlighted restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid and limitations on freedom of movement, leading to a particularly heavy toll on vulnerable populations. According to their data, 198 of those killed were among the most vulnerable, including 130 children, 54 women, and 14 elderly individuals. The report further states that 889 people have been injured, with children, women, and the elderly accounting for over 60% of those casualties.
The Gaza Centre for Human Rights has stated that Israel has not adhered to the agreed-upon withdrawal map and is calling for genuine international monitoring of the ceasefire agreement, the opening of border crossings, and the guarantee of fundamental rights for residents of the Gaza Strip.
Ceasefire Under Strain
The ceasefire agreement in Gaza, brokered last month, followed an international summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, where a ceasefire document was signed amidst widespread international welcome. The recent escalation raises concerns about the fragility of the agreement.
