The French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) has called for an immediate investigation into serious allegations that two individuals gathered intelligence on Muslims in France and transferred it to Israeli intelligence agencies. The accusations have ignited a firestorm of controversy and raised profound concerns about potential breaches of privacy and religious freedom.
In a strongly worded statement released Friday, the CFCM highlighted claims that an investigation targeting Muslims in France was conducted at the behest of the Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions (CRIF). The council alleges that political, administrative, and security entities within France provided information to two individuals, one of whom is reportedly Israeli, which was then allegedly transmitted to a foreign intelligence service.
These allegations surfaced following the circulation of a video on social media featuring French writer Didier Long. In the video, Long claims to have been conducting research since 2023 on behalf of CRIF and various Jewish organizations in France, in collaboration with Dov Maimon, an advisor to the Israeli government. Long asserts that he met with numerous individuals, including officials from French domestic intelligence and the Directorate of Military Intelligence, and that the information he collected was compiled into reports and provided to Israeli intelligence services.
According to the CFCM, Long and Maimon allegedly view Muslims in France as a ‘threat’ to Jewish residents. This perception, if accurate, raises serious questions about the motivations behind the alleged intelligence gathering and the potential for bias and discrimination.
The CFCM has urged relevant authorities, particularly the Ministry of the Interior, to launch a formal investigation into these disturbing allegations. The council has also announced its intention to file a complaint with the National Commission on Informatics and Liberty (CNIL) regarding the data collected and its subsequent use. The outcome of any investigation will be closely watched by the Muslim community in France and beyond.
