MC Alger, one of Algeria’s representatives in the CAF Champions League, played to a 0-0 draw against South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns. The match, held Friday evening at the Chahid Ali Amar Stadium in Douera, Algeria, was for the second round of Group C in the continental competition.
MC Alger dominated the first half but failed to capitalize on their opportunities. Farhat missed a clear chance in the 42nd minute that could have given his team the lead. After the break, the Algerian side attempted to break down the visitors’ defense. However, a lack of efficiency in front of goal meant the match ended in a goalless draw.
This draw puts MC Alger in a difficult position, especially after their 2-1 defeat to Al-Hilal of Sudan in the first round. In the other match in Group C, Saint Eloi Lupopo of Congo will host Al-Hilal on Sunday.
Meanwhile, in the CAF Confederation Cup, JS Kabylie also drew 0-0 against Young Africans of Tanzania in their Group B match, played Friday evening at the Hocine Aït Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou. JS Kabylie suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat in their opening match against Al Ahly of Egypt in Cairo. In the other Group B match, AS FAR Rabat drew 1-1 against Al Ahly.
The competitions will now pause for the Africa Cup of Nations finals 2025 (December 21, 2025 to January 26, 2026). Play will resume in January 2026 (23, 24, 25) with the third-round matches.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals.
