At least ten children in the United States may have died as a result of COVID-19 vaccinations, according to an internal memo from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The memo, reportedly penned by the FDA’s Chief Medical and Scientific Officer, Vinay Prasad, cites myocarditis, inflammation of the heart muscle, as a possible cause of death.
According to the memo, the ages and underlying health conditions of the children were not disclosed. The manufacturers of the vaccines involved in these cases were also not identified. The findings were described by Prasad as a “profound revelation,” and plans for increased vaccine oversight, including randomized studies across all age groups, are reportedly underway.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) vaccine advisory committee is expected to convene within days to discuss the matter. Prasad, an oncologist, has been a vocal critic of COVID-19 vaccine mandates and mask requirements in the United States.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which oversees the FDA, has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding the report. This development comes as Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. has dramatically altered the government’s COVID-19 vaccine policy, restricting access to individuals aged 65 and older, and those with pre-existing health conditions.
Kennedy, a long-time vaccine skeptic, has previously linked vaccines to autism and has advocated for a complete overhaul of the country’s vaccination policies. During both the Trump and Biden administrations, health officials strongly recommended COVID-19 vaccines as a life-saving measure. The change in policy and the reported potential link between vaccines and child deaths are likely to fuel further debate and scrutiny regarding vaccine safety and efficacy.
