Political Parties Accused of Undermining Justice System

Algiers, November 29, 2025 – Several political parties are facing accusations of attempting to manipulate the justice system and disregard the laws of the Republic, according to reports. These parties, allegedly struggling with political bankruptcy and lacking concrete programs for the Algerian people, are resorting to demagoguery as a strategy for launching premature campaigns for upcoming legislative and local elections.

One party, in particular, is reportedly attempting to outmaneuver the government on international issues, a move considered a blatant violation of the Constitution. The Constitution explicitly grants the President of the Republic exclusive authority over foreign policy, a mandate derived from the popular vote and outlined in the President’s program presented to the Algerian people. Challenging this authority is seen as an affront not only to the President but to the country itself, which the President embodies according to the Constitution.

Furthermore, another political party is accused of embracing demagoguery in anticipation of the upcoming local and national elections. This party allegedly criticizes judicial rulings based on the Republic’s laws aimed at combating hate speech, presenting them as flawed. This is viewed as a dangerous attempt to revert Algeria to a period of conflict and discord, especially considering the Parliament, including representatives from some of these very parties, previously approved legislation against hate speech.

This blatant contradiction and deviation from ethical political norms, highlights a clear intention by certain parties to subvert the course of justice and the rule of law, and to revive outdated practices of favoritism and regionalism. These practices, it is argued, were decisively rejected by the Algerian people on December 12, 2019, and should not be allowed to resurface. The accusations raise serious concerns about the integrity of the upcoming elections and the commitment of certain political actors to upholding the principles of justice and the rule of law.
