Algiers, November 29, 2025 – Algeria and Egypt have reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate on building a more robust and sustainable healthcare system for the African continent. The pledge was made during a meeting between Algeria’s Minister of Health, Mohamed Sidiki Ait Messoudene, and Egypt’s Minister of Public Business Sector, Mohamed Sheemy, held at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Ministerial Conference on Local Production of Medicines and Other Health Technologies, organized under the patronage of the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Minister Ait Messoudene welcomed his Egyptian counterpart and expressed his gratitude for Egypt’s participation in Algeria’s initiative to promote local pharmaceutical and health technology production.
Ait Messoudene emphasized the importance of the conference as a platform to unite African efforts in the pharmaceutical industry, achieve health security, and support sustainable development across the continent. He highlighted the potential for strengthened collaboration and knowledge sharing to address the healthcare challenges facing African nations.
Minister Sheemy expressed his appreciation for Algeria’s organization of the event, considering it an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations and promote health cooperation between the two countries. He underscored the deep historical and fraternal ties between Algeria and Egypt, showcasing the Egyptian experience in local pharmaceutical production as a successful model that can be replicated and leveraged across Africa to achieve self-sufficiency in medicines.
“The Egyptian model is a testament to what African nations can achieve through strategic investment and collaboration,” Sheemy stated.
In closing, Minister Ait Messoudene stressed the need to translate the principles of the Algiers Declaration into practical programs and tangible projects that benefit every African citizen. Both ministers affirmed Algeria and Egypt’s joint commitment to continue coordinating efforts and strengthening cooperation to build a more resilient and sustainable African healthcare system, reinforcing the values of brotherhood and joint African action. The focus will be on promoting local production, improving access to essential medicines, and strengthening healthcare infrastructure throughout the continent.
