Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo – CR Belouizdad endured a painful 4-1 defeat at the hands of AS Otohô of Congo in their second-round match of the CAF Confederation Cup. The match, played on Saturday, saw the Algerian side struggling against a dominant Otohô team.
The first half proved disastrous for “Les Rouge et Blanc,” as they conceded three goals. AS Otohô’s Giordy Ndeki struck first in the 12th minute, followed by Diallo in the 26th minute, and then Ilinga in the 29th minute, leaving CR Belouizdad reeling.
The Congolese side continued their relentless attack into the second half, adding a fourth goal in the 65th minute, compounding the misery for the Algiers-based club. CR Belouizdad looked disorganized and struggled to contain Otohô’s offensive pressure.
Late in the game, CR Belouizdad managed to salvage a consolation goal in the 82nd minute. Abderrahmane Meziane converted a penalty, providing a glimmer of hope amidst the overwhelming defeat.
This loss leaves CR Belouizdad with 3 points, level with AS Otohô and Stellenbosch FC of South Africa in the group standings. Stellenbosch are set to face Singida Black Stars of Tanzania on Sunday.
The defeat raises concerns about CR Belouizdad’s chances of progressing further in the CAF Confederation Cup. The team will need to regroup and address their defensive vulnerabilities if they hope to bounce back in their upcoming matches.
