The Federal Bureau of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has decided to refer the selection of the new national team head coach to the National Technical College, which will hold an extraordinary meeting this Thursday at the National Technical Center in Sidi Moussa.
The technical body will be tasked with defining the required profile of the next coach, evaluating criteria such as technical competence, experience, and tactical vision. It will then submit its recommendations to FAF President Walid Sadi, who will proceed with the recruitment process.
According to an official FAF statement, Sadi briefed members of the Federal Bureau on recent developments concerning the relationship with former coach Vladimir Petković and his staff since Algeria’s participation in the 2026 World Cup.
He emphasized that the federation handled the situation with responsibility and calm, aiming to preserve the stability of the national team and avoid unnecessary controversy. Discussions were held between both parties regarding the possibility of continuing their collaboration, but a mutual agreement was ultimately reached to end the contract amicably, as the current conditions no longer allowed for a stable and trusting working environment.
The Federal Bureau approved the steps taken by the FAF president, considering them to be in the best interest of both the federation and the national team. It also expressed its gratitude to Petković and his staff for their professionalism and contributions, wishing them success in their future careers.
In the same context, the FAF condemned what it described as a “coordinated smear campaign” led by certain media outlets and commentators, stating that some criticism had crossed the line into attempts to destabilize the federation and the national team.
The federation reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its project aimed at modernizing and developing Algerian football in a climate of responsibility and stability.
