Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf stated that the conference is held under the high patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who has made defending African memory and confronting attempts to falsify it a central focus of Algerian diplomatic vision. Attaf affirmed that Algeria, consistent with the outcomes of the recent African Union summit, continues to consolidate its leading role in promoting historical justice and holding colonial powers accountable internationally, reflecting a steadfast diplomatic vision based on the principles of liberation and African solidarity.

Attaf reiterated that Algeria, having suffered from the crimes of French colonialism, including massacres, atrocities, and nuclear testing, understands the extent of the uncivilized effects of colonialism on peoples. Algeria draws inspiration from the sacrifices of its martyrs, embodying a commitment to liberation principles and defending the right of peoples to self-determination. This historical experience fuels Algeria’s dedication to addressing the enduring legacies of colonialism across the continent. The conference aims to develop concrete strategies for achieving justice and reparations for the victims of colonial rule.
