Attaf Meets UN Peacekeeping Chief Ahead of Oran Process

Algiers – Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received today, Sunday, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix. The meeting took place on the eve of the 12th session of the “Oran Process” on Peace and Security in Africa, scheduled for December 1st and 2nd, according to a statement from the ministry.

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Algeria and the United Nations in the field of peacekeeping, particularly within the African continent. Minister Attaf reiterated Algeria’s commitment to supporting UN efforts aimed at promoting peace, security, and stability in Africa.

The “Oran Process,” an Algerian initiative, serves as a crucial platform for dialogue and collaboration among African nations, regional organizations, and the United Nations to address pressing security challenges facing the continent. This year’s session is expected to address issues such as the rise of terrorism, transnational crime, and the impact of climate change on peace and security.

Mr. Lacroix’s visit highlights the importance of Algeria’s role in promoting peace and security in Africa and its commitment to multilateralism. Algeria has consistently advocated for African solutions to African problems and has actively contributed to peacekeeping efforts across the continent.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad confirmed that the meeting was productive and reaffirmed the shared commitment to working together to address the complex challenges facing the African continent.
