Algiers – The Algerian Council of Ministers has approved a series of significant social measures aimed at bolstering citizens’ purchasing power and improving the living conditions of vulnerable segments of society. These decisions align with the economic and social policies championed by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
A key decision involves raising the national minimum wage. This move underscores the government’s commitment to keeping pace with economic changes and supporting workers in the face of rising living costs. The Council emphasized the importance of ensuring that wages adequately reflect the current economic realities and provide a decent standard of living for all Algerian workers.
Furthermore, the Council announced an increase in unemployment benefits as part of a comprehensive review of the eligibility criteria and disbursement mechanisms. President Tebboune has instructed the Minister of Labor to initiate a review of the conditions and procedures for receiving these benefits. The revised regulations will stipulate that benefits are granted for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension to two years, according to a new framework to be announced shortly.
The Council also prioritized the study of new proposals concerning increases in pensions and retirement benefits. These proposals are slated for presentation during the next Council of Ministers meeting. This anticipated action is expected to improve the financial well-being of retirees and individuals with fixed incomes, addressing concerns about the erosion of their purchasing power due to inflation.
These measures are part of a broader effort to strengthen the social fabric and support the most vulnerable populations. The highest authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing economic reforms that prioritize social justice and enhance the overall standard of living for all Algerians. The government aims to create a more equitable and prosperous society through targeted social programs and sustainable economic development.
