African Union Praises Algeria’s Diplomatic Role

Algiers, DZWatch – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has lauded Algeria’s constructive role during its tenure on the United Nations Security Council, affirming that the nation remains a cornerstone of African diplomacy.

Speaking at the opening of the 12th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa, held at the Abdellatif Rahal International Conference Centre in Algiers, Mahamat emphasized Algeria’s pivotal contributions to supporting the continent’s causes and bolstering its unity. “I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate that Algeria will remain a fundamental pillar in African diplomacy, given its central roles in supporting our continent’s issues and strengthening its unity,” he stated.

Mahamat also highlighted the significance of the ‘Oran Process,’ as this annual African gathering has become known, describing it as “an important milestone in consolidating African solidarity and defending the interests of our countries in various international forums.”

He further acknowledged Algeria’s impactful presence on the UN Security Council. “I must commend the constructive role Algeria played during its recent membership in the United Nations Security Council, where it defended African issues with full responsibility and competence, and succeeded in conveying the continent’s voice to the international community during a period marked by unprecedented geopolitical complexities,” Mahamat concluded. The seminar focuses on enhancing cooperation and finding solutions to pressing peace and security challenges facing the African continent.
