Algeria Hosts Consultative Meeting for A3+ Group

Algiers hosted a consultative meeting of the “A3+” group on Monday, under the initiative of Algeria, the current coordinator of the group. The meeting brought together current members and incoming members of the UN Security Council, whose terms will commence in January.

The new members include the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Bahrain, Colombia, and Latvia. According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the 12th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa, known as the “Oran Process.”

The forum provided an opportunity for constructive discussions between outgoing and incoming A3+ members. Discussions focused on various issues, exchanging views, and sharing experiences on how to strengthen cooperation among elected members of the Security Council.

The Algerian initiative aims to solidify the role of the A3+ group as a unified voice defending Africa’s interests. It also seeks to share the successes of this mechanism with new members through the “Oran Process” platform, which Algeria hosts annually. The A3+ group plays a crucial role in advocating for African perspectives within the UN Security Council. This meeting underscores Algeria’s commitment to fostering collaboration and ensuring a strong African voice on global security issues.

The ‘Oran Process’ continues to be a pivotal event for promoting peace and security initiatives across the African continent, and this consultative meeting further solidifies its importance.
