New Measures Aim to Stabilize Livestock Feed Prices

Algiers, December 2, 2025 – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced a series of new measures designed to support livestock farming and reduce the production costs of red meat. The initiatives aim to stabilize the prices of animal feed and ensure its availability to farmers across the country.

According to a statement released by the ministry, the measures include ensuring the year-round availability of barley at grain and dry legume cooperatives nationwide. This barley will be sold at a competitive price of 3900 dinars per quintal. The aim is to curb illicit speculation that has led to significant and unjustified price increases, sometimes exceeding 5000 dinars per quintal.

The ministry has also decided to maintain the subsidized price of barley (specifically for female livestock) at 2500 dinars per quintal through all grain and dry legume cooperatives. This measure aims to safeguard the national livestock herd, support breeders, and encourage them to expand their herds and improve the quality of animal production.

Furthermore, the National Office for Livestock Feed will implement new procedures to provide compound feed at its production units. This feed, primarily composed of bran, corn, and soybeans, will be offered at competitive prices of 3150 dinars per quintal for sheep and 3300 dinars per quintal for fattening cattle. This will allow livestock farmers to access balanced and high-quality feed.

The ministry’s statement also outlined new organizational measures regarding bran, ensuring its availability to all livestock farmers at mills for 1800 dinars per quintal. This aims to stabilize the market and ensure the availability of this essential ingredient in animal feed formulations.

The ministry emphasized that the implementation of these measures will be subject to continuous monitoring and evaluation to ensure their effectiveness and achieve the set objectives. The ministry reiterated its commitment to continue working in partnership with all stakeholders in the sector to strengthen national food security and enhance the value of national animal resources.
