Algeria’s national team coach, Madjid Bouguera, has declared that all participating nations in the 2025 Arab Cup possess a legitimate chance of winning the coveted title. He emphasized that each match in the tournament should be approached with the intensity of a final.
Bouguera made these remarks during a press conference held on Tuesday, stating, “The competition is fierce, and as I said in 2021, every team is aiming for victory.” He added, “There is no added pressure on us as defending champions. We anticipate a challenging competition.”
The coach pointed to the results of the opening round as evidence of the tournament’s competitiveness. “Yesterday, Palestine and Syria secured victories against teams considered to be among the favorites. This demonstrates that every game has its own unique dynamic.”
Turning his attention to Algeria’s upcoming match against Sudan, Bouguera acknowledged the difficulty of the encounter. “The match will be tough, especially considering the strong support that the Sudanese team enjoys here in Qatar.”
“We know the Sudanese team well, having faced them previously in the African Nations Championship for local players,” Bouguera continued. “Sudan is going through a difficult period, facing challenges in their country, and this can be a source of motivation for them.”
Bouguera also stressed the team’s desire to bring joy to the Algerian people. “Everyone wants to make the people happy, especially after witnessing the support here in Qatar. I told the players that the Arab Cup is as important as the AFCON, and the people love to see the team give their all. That is the most important thing.”
Algeria is scheduled to face Sudan on Wednesday at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in the opening match of Group D in the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025. The match is set to kick off at 13:00 local time.
