The head of Libya’s National Elections Commission, Emad Al-Sayeh, stressed the significance of conducting elections for Libya’s political future during his recent visit to Ankara. Al-Sayeh sought to gain insights from Turkey’s experience in organizing elections, meeting with members of Türkiye’s Supreme Election Council and its president, Ahmed Yener.

Al-Sayeh mentioned that they closely observed Turkey’s election processes and its technical intricacies. Notably, he praised the acceptance of election results by all Turkish parties, which he attributed to the effective work of the Supreme Election Council. He reiterated that the ballot boxes are the only means for peaceful power transition.

During his visit to the Council’s headquarters in Turkey, Al-Sayeh examined the election management equipment and received presentations on the council’s institutional structure, legislations, and technical procedures involved in managing elections.

In a separate development, Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah, the head of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU) based in Tripoli, made a commitment to support flood-affected areas in eastern Libya. The GNU, in collaboration with the General Electric Company (GEC), successfully completed maintenance of the electrical network in Derna’s industrial zone, fully restoring power to the area.

Additionally, teams from the Libyan Emergency Medicine and Support Center (EMSC) recovered the bodies of six flood victims from the Wadi Umm al-Barakat area. These tragic deaths occurred as a hurricane-strength storm hit the region on September 10, causing extensive devastation and endangering thousands of residents.

Meanwhile, authorities in eastern Libya reported a confrontation between Libyan National Army (LNA) troops and an armed group associated with Mahdi al-Barghathi. The LNA was combating a “foreign-backed plot” to destabilize Benghazi, according to reports in Libyan media. Notably, Al-Barghathi, who had previously supported Khalifa Haftar’s LNA forces, was involved in this conflict despite his affiliations with a Tripoli government unrecognized by Haftar.

Health Minister Othman Abduljalil from Libya’s eastern government stated that 15 individuals lost their lives in these clashes, including six LNA members and nine terrorist militants. The skirmishes occurred in the Salmani neighborhood, involving LNA members and militants associated with former Defense Minister Al-Mahdi Al-Barghathi.

Subsequently, Faraj Al-Sosae, the Libyan Military Prosecutor in the eastern region, reported that Al-Barghathi sustained severe injuries during the clashes. Al-Sosae added that a group of 40 armed militants, accompanying Al-Barghathi, infiltrated Benghazi. When a police unit was dispatched to arrest the former Defense Minister, it faced resistance from the militants accompanying him.

The stability and political future of Libya continue to be at the forefront of international attention, with the electoral process being a crucial factor in shaping the nation’s destiny.
