Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Tuesday that American and Ukrainian negotiators have refined a framework for a potential peace agreement, initially drafted in Geneva.
In a statement posted on X, Zelensky affirmed that the work was based on the Geneva document, which has since undergone revisions. He emphasized the active engagement of Ukrainian diplomats with international partners, aiming to ensure the meaningful participation of European nations and other interested parties in shaping the decisions. “Our diplomats are actively working with all partners to ensure that European states and others who are purposefully interested in a coalition of the willing participate in the drafting of decisions,” Zelensky wrote.
Zelensky directed the Ukrainian team to continue working constructively. He asserted that Ukraine approaches all diplomatic efforts with utmost seriousness, committed to achieving genuine peace and ensuring security. “Ukraine treats all diplomatic efforts with the utmost seriousness, as we are committed to achieving real peace and ensuring security… This is precisely the level of commitment that the Russian side must impose,” he stated.
Ukrainian and American officials have been discussing the U.S. proposals for over a week in Geneva. They reconvened for further talks on Sunday in Florida.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to meet with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff at the Kremlin today. The discussions are expected to center around the ongoing conflict and potential pathways towards a resolution. The Ukrainian government continues to emphasize the importance of international collaboration in achieving a lasting and just peace.
