ORAN, Algeria – Participants at the 12th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa – the Oran Process – have issued a strong call for the unification of strategies to combat terrorism, extremism, and organized crime across the continent. The emphasis was placed on leveraging Algeria’s extensive experience in counter-terrorism to enhance regional security.
The Oran Process, a key initiative for promoting peace and stability in Africa, served as a platform for discussions on the evolving threats facing the continent. Experts and officials highlighted the urgent need for enhanced cooperation and coordination among African nations to effectively address the complex challenges posed by terrorist groups and transnational criminal networks.
“The fight against terrorism requires a comprehensive and unified approach,” stated one delegate during the seminar. “By sharing best practices and coordinating our efforts, we can significantly strengthen our collective security.”
Algeria’s experience in combating terrorism, forged through years of confronting extremist groups, was presented as a valuable resource for other African nations. The country’s strategies, including its focus on de-radicalization programs, border security enhancements, and community engagement initiatives, were highlighted as potential models for replication across the continent.
The seminar also addressed the crucial link between organized crime and terrorism, recognizing that criminal networks often provide financial and logistical support to terrorist groups. Participants stressed the importance of tackling organized crime as an integral part of the broader counter-terrorism effort.
The Oran Process concluded with a commitment from participating nations to deepen their cooperation in intelligence sharing, law enforcement, and border control. The unified approach aims to create a more secure and stable environment for sustainable development and prosperity in Africa. The lessons learned from Algeria’s counter-terrorism efforts are expected to play a vital role in shaping future strategies and initiatives across the region.
